SAN DIEGO COMIC CON 2016 WAS AMAZING. Like, one of the best times of my life.
Our thesis film "Lola the Great" was selected to screen in the Comic Con International Independent Film Festival this year, and with that, we got free four-day professional passes and a plus one! I took my sister Kathryn along and Rachel Leigh Shirley, the Co-Writer and Director of Photography for Lola, took her mother. We had a great time at the screening, everyone was so kind. Special shoutout to Adam Neese for being a great festival coordinator and emcee!
After our film screened on Thursday, we had the rest of the weekend to explore and here are some photos of the highlights! Comic Con cosplaying gave me a great opportunity to flex my production design muscles, I made my sister's Scarlet Witch costume, my Quicksilver costume, my Coraline costume, and my Beast costume. The Beast costume even ended up on IMDb! I am now a Getty Image!
Another highlight was when Kathryn got to meet Brad Bird. She is a HUGE fan of the Iron Giant and The Incredibles (as am I) but we ran late for his panel. He was about to leave the room and I kind of shouted out, "I'm sorry but my sister is a huge fan of yours and I made her late and would you take a picture with her it would mean so much!" And he was SO NICE! He came back into the room, talked to Kathryn, took a picture, then shook our hands. It was awesome to have one of our heroes be so kind to us in person.
Comic Con was full of enthusiastic, talented people; it's such an accepting, positive community that I'm glad to be a part of. I hope I get to go back next year!!
